Art in the Park 2010 - Lathrup Village

The thunder storms were called for and threatened on both Saturday and Sunday of June 26 and 27. Saturday went from overcast to muggy and hot. The show did not start until 11 AM on Sunday but it was mostly over by two-fifteen or so when the tornado siren blasted out over us. The park surrounds the city hall with the police station in the building somewhere.

What nice folks that organized and ran this show. The Kiwanis and the City did a great job. There were helpers to assist in unloading and ‘ambassadors’ for each area to provide breaks. Several golf carts with drivers would deliver you directly to you canopy or back to your car. Nice! They had coffee and bagels/muffins for breakfast, and they served a pizza & salad dinner when the show closed on Saturday.

So for all the very nice people and nice amenities the Lathrup show went from very few sales to none with an early close. Even when the weather was just miserable there were very few customers moving through the grounds. Sunday was worse for customers. Having been in a show that closed with a tornado, I was more than anxious to have everything in the car and to get out of there. The staff and  vendors whose equipment was stored pitched in and helped not just me but others get their materials and canopies stowed.

I ended up not selling much, my canopy banner that I really just bought got destroyed, one of my canopy weights got left somewhere, and I discovered that the canopy storage cover didn’t make it home. Now all of that is my fault because I assumed that all my very fine helpers had brought everything over to the car. So I can’t fault them a bit as they were moving on to the next booth.

So I’m off to obtain the materials necessary to built another canopy weight as there is another show this weekend in Saugatuck. A new banner is ordered„ and I just got off the phone ordering a new canopy storage cover.
