Royal Craft Show at Castle Farms - Charlevoix...
It was windy & rainy on Friday about two-thirty on when I got to the Castle Farms location. A propitious beginning it was not!
The person at check-in somewhat randomly reassigned me to another booth spot. I was so unsure that this was going to fly with the vendor who was assigned to this location that I shortly walked back out to check-in. After a call to someone I was back to my original...

Swartz Creek - Art in the Park - August 28, 2010
This was the most organized, focused, and caring for vendors show I have ever been to since I started doing shows. The Kiwanis men & women came by often to inquire whether I needed a break, did I need water, and did I know about the hospitality booth for vendors? It was truly wonderful as compared to most shows where once you have checked in you never see them again! The Kiwanis also had lots...

Grand Haven - Art on the Riverfront - August 21,...
What a gorgeous spot for the show in Grand Haven! The show is in a park that is right on a marina for LARGE pleasure boats. The water is the Grand River. Very shortly after the marina and park it passes into Lake Michigan. To say that it is wide and deep is an understatement. This becomes evident when the ocean going freighter passes by and blocks the entire heights of the high sand dune that...

Make-Up
Make-Up
Mother never wore make-up.
I guess it was a Nazarene thing —
a no dancing, no movies, no drinking, no smoking, no PDA —
well most of the fundamentally forbidden.
Maybe it was from the depression experience;
the expense of it. Maybe it was just Father
clamping down. Or the day-to-day
existence of kids & garden & fixing meals
ready at the appointed time.
What...

Fine Arts Festival - Brighton
Fine Arts Festival - Brighton
August 14th & 15th
On Sunday the public address system coming from from the roof tops via a local radio station announced that there was a storm coming BUT it was not going to be much and the sun was shinning on the other side of those dark clouds. Then the deluge hit which included all the usual suspects of heavy rain, blustery winds, lightening &...

Art in the Park - Holland MI - August 7, 2010
Art in the Park - Holland August 7th I participated for the first time in Holland at their Art in the Park last year, and I was anxious to go back to this event again this year. I was not disappointed! I would hate to disabuse anyone of the notion that it is all about the art. The reality is that one cannot continue to drive hither & yon without at least covering the entry fees and the gas —...

Art in the Park - Petoskey
July 17th
Maybe I should have just packed up the tent and put it back in the car when I heard the gas generator running at Weber Lake State Forest Campground. I’ve camped there many times. It is a very pleasant little camp with a fine lake. Unfortunately the neighbors ran the generator not just to charge a battery but all night and all day. It was never quiet. I...
Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair 2010
Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair 2010
July 10th & July 11th
From a vendor perspective there is nothing better than being able to drive one’s vehicle right to your booth space to unload and pack up! The second best thing is to have tons of room in back and on the sides of the booth. Now the ideal show includes those two elements and lots of customers who are actually buying art and walking around...
Waterfront Invitational Fine Arts Fair — Saugatuck...
If you have ever been to Saugatuck Michigan in the summer you know how congested it can get when it is full of tourists and the yacht folks. Now add a whole bunch of anxious art fair vendors all trying to get their booths up and stocked; then reverse the whole process about 5:00 PM when the place is really teaming with tourists. It went amazingly well. The Saugatuck-Douglas Art Club really did a...

Art in the Park 2010 - Lathrup Village
The thunder storms were called for and threatened on both Saturday and Sunday of June 26 and 27. Saturday went from overcast to muggy and hot. The show did not start until 11 AM on Sunday but it was mostly over by two-fifteen or so when the tornado siren blasted out over us. The park surrounds the city hall with the police station in the building somewhere.
What nice folks that organized and...

Greenfield 2004 Gallery
New Gallery Greenfield 2004 Gallery I think there must be some place or time in this world where every individual reaches a state I call cognition. For me this is the point in living from which mostly one does not remember much of anything to the point where one has the feeling that one remembers much. I do remember three things from Aberdeen South Dakota where I was born, and several dozens of...
